Final Project

Proposal: My proposal is that I will make a video compiling interviews of TCNJ Students

Production log:

Preproduction: To prepare for this project, I used my friends camera and video taped some TCNJ students as I interviewed them. I questioned 6 TCNJ students and asked them 12 questions each. By the time I was done, I had about an hour worth of footage spread out between the six interviews.

Production:  The first main goal for my project was to shorten the interview from an hour down to as close to a minute as I could get. The problem was that because the interviews are all dialogue, It became very hard to cut it down after I cut out about a half hour of silence. I decided that I would only use two students I interviewed and only three of the questions I had asked. I used my friend Adrienne because I felt she gave the most interesting answers out of everyone I interviewed and I used James because he gave the shortest answers so I could save time. I then cut out every part of the video where there was silence, and anytime there would be a jump that was the same person, but two different points in time, i would cut to the other student first to hide the skips.

Self Evaluation:

I like the way my video came out at the end, I didn't use any special effects or background music, but the format and layout of my video was one where either of those I feel would have taken away from the effect and impact of the video. One thing I would like to do is go back and create a full length video using the interviews I have and maybe even get a few more because I fell it would come out very well.

Midterm

Proposal: My proposal is that I will make a portfolio to show off my photography.

Production log:

Preproduction: to prepare for the project I went out with a camera and took pictures around campus. I then went through the images and decided on which pictures I wanted to use for my project. In the pictures where I made composites, I thought about what I wanted to add to the picture and then went online to find an image with a subject that I could use the selection tool and add to a preexisting image.

Production: For all of my images, I took the photos myself that either make up the whole image or he main background. I used adjustments to color correct my images to account for problems with the camera when I took the picture and to make the images look better as a whole, whether to account for the images being too light or for them to be shifted too far into one color. My first three images were the images I had done for my composition assignment which is assignment number six. for the next three images, one image is another phot I had taken that I adjusted t make it look better. For the final two that I used photoshop on, I thought about what I could add to the images to enhance them. On the image with the baby and the monkey, I looked through the internet to find the best pictures I could find where I could select the child and the monkey and add them into the picture so they would fit. I then used scale and rotate to position them how they wanted and I used the blend layer tool to bring the yellow rope out in front of the child. For the last image I found an image of a plane landing and a fighter plane and position them in the sky above the building.

The first three images were used for assignment number six and can be found at http://mineroff110.blogspot.com/2016/03/compositions.html

Self Evaluation:

I really like the way the images came out. I thought this project was a good way for me to put together a portfolio of different photographs I had taken. I learned a lot during the process about how to use photoshop for correcting images that had been taken with a camera, and about what makes a good picture according to the subjects layout. I think altogether as a whole the images all tied together as a common theme of buildings and architecture and really came out well.

One of the things I would want to fix is on the picture with the sloth, I feel like the child on the bottom left is a little bit too out of focus, so I would want to adjust the blur so he blends more with the blur of the background, Additionally I would like to put in a little more work fixing the sloth so it fits in the picture better. On the image with the planes, there are slight adjustments I would want to make to the plane layers as well. However, I feel that the images where I didn't make composites and only did corrections came out very well.

All the images below were made using adjustments and adjustment layers to make the image look "better" than the original.
